Sunday Night Selections

I love technology. E-mails, blogs, and social networking sites have allowed me to keep up with my old friends and meet new ones in ways I never thought possible. But even with all of this technology, there's a level of closeness that only an actual letter can provide. When's the last time you wrote someone a letter?

What does this have to do with music? Nothing. The thought just crossed my mind and I felt like sharing...

Techno
Art of Noise - "Moments In Love"
Eric: Mmmm.... This is the type of song makes you want to grab a young lady and...yeah.
Terence: Quiet time?
Eric: Oh no. It won't be quiet.
Terence: If you're making love, it's gotta be quiet. You save the loud stuff for fucking.
Eric: Well, there'll be some moaning.
Terence: Quiet moaning.
Eric: *startstappingonthefootboard*
Terence: *nods* Yeah. Soft moaning and the headboard against the wall with this song in the background.
Eric: *approvinglynods*

Rock
Flobots - "Handlebars"
This song was originally recommended to me by a friend who thought the first of the two singers sounded like Eminem. My friend is tone deaf. Lack of Slim Shadiness aside, it's not bad stuff. Personally, I think their sound is a derivative of Linkin Park, so if you like those guys, you should enjoy this track. It gets a little heavyhanded with its political agenda towards the end, but I won't hold that against them. I appreciate a song that at least makes an attempt to tell a story or make a point.

Acoustic Rock
Plain White T's - "Hey There Delilah"
As I drove to Charlotte a little over a month ago, this song came up on a CD I made last summer. For some reason or another, it wound up striking a nerve inside of me. It made me ask multiple questions to myself. "Why in the blue hell am I in this car at 5am?" "Why am I about to get on this plane?" "Why did I spend an extra $60 that I didn't have on a train ticket?" Those questions may have been rhetorical as I wasn't searching within myself for some answer. I knew the all of answers. They were the same across the board.

All of the above were faster than walking.

Rock
Foreigner - "Jukebox Hero"
I like to think that when the crew at Harmonix and RedOctane were developing the first Guitar Hero, that someone who was a huge fan of Foreigner came up with the name. I really have no reason for listing this song here other than the fact that it has been stuck in my head all week -- randomly. I hadn't heard it on the radio. I didn't play VGguitar to it in Guitar Hero or Rock Band. I just came from work one day and was like, "I really want to listen to 'Jukebox Hero.'" With that being said, I'm not going to waste any more space rambling on.

hey i like the way you started this post, good food for thought. i wrote maybe 1 or 2 letters in the last 2 years? I did write several post cards, about 20 just 2 months ago, does that count?

I really dig that flobots song. I can KINDA SORTA hear how your friend thought he sounded like Eminem. Only in the first verse though. A nice selection of songs all in all.

I liked Hey there delilah when it first came out but that song was overplayed to death! have you heard the parody? it's hilarious.

When is Garth going to appear?? he is the best artist ever! :)

I'd say postcards count. As long as they were handwritten. There's a certain intimacy that script provides that can't be replicated by Times New Roman or Arial.

And that conversation happened maybe 2 minutes before that post went live...you can't write better dialogue.

Renaissance
'Preciate it.

Thanks for dropping in. I swung by your site as well. I like what you and your co-authors have going on there.

I loved Hey There Delilah when it first came out and I agreed on its overplayedness (new word - look it up). It's just that something struck me one day and I haven't be able to shake it. Possibly just bad gas.

And I'll see if I can work on some Garth for you...
