Fear Of The Dark

So this is what it feels like to be on the other side.

The company I work for recently just opened another location. As such, we've been flooded with resumes and job applications every day. Now it's not my job to look through them, but I wind up doing so every so often. Just to see who we would be potentially hiring. In skimming through resumes, I've noticed something...

Times are still hard.

My company doesn't need highly skilled labor. Even so, we get applications from people who are way overqualified and know that they're way overqualified. They just need the money.

We get applications from people who have retired already, but due to cuts in pensions or decreases in their savings, have to go back to work. They just need the money.

Then on the flipside, we get applications from people who are obviously unfit to work anywhere. But, like everyone else, they need the money.

It's tough out there. And every day, the stack of resumes that sits by my workstation gets bigger and bigger. It took a minute, but now I can understand why it took recruiters so long to find my resume.

The black hole is deeper, darker, and vaster than I imagined.

Its tough out there, and I'm glad both you and I are currently on the employed side of the black hole.
