Sunday Night Selections

A SnS on an actual Sunday. Today is a joyous day! Let us rejoice! OK, maybe not, but it makes me feel good to actually live up to this column's name.

Comedy
Adam Sandler - "The Lonesome Kicker"
This song is dedicated to Clemson field goal kicker Richard Jackson. Never have I seen feelings toward a person shift so much over the course of the game. Jackson entered Clemson's game against Maryland as the best kicker in the country and lived up to that billing as he banged out a 51 yard field goal early on in the game. "Big Dick Jackson" was on fire and was doing his part for the Tigers. Unfortunately, his luck would turn as he missed two field goals (47, 48) within the last four minutes of the game and the Tigers fell to Maryland, 24-21. Now I don't want to say that Jackson was the sole factor our loss against the Terps, but damn if he wasn't a major part in it. Something tells me that he's having a rough Sunday morning...

Rap
The Skinny Boys - "JockBox"
Proof that good beatboxing never goes out of style. Released in 1986, this track from the Bridgeport, CT based trio The Skinny Boys still holds up well today. The sound is very representative of the time period, but that's not a bad thing. In the late 80s, rap and hip-hop was all about having fun - no matter if you were a DJ, a b-boy, or a beatboxer. As such, it's hard not to smile a little bit as you groove in rhythm to this track.

Indie Rock
Miniature Tigers - "The Wolf"
I'll be honest, I've got nothing cool to say about this band or song. Their Wikipedia page doesn't provide a lot of information, neither does their MySpace page. I'm not even sure how this song wound up on my computer. Part of a sampler pack? A free download from Pitchfork? Who knows? Either way, it's managed to pop up in my Winamp player more than once lately, and I think it's kinda cool. Give it a listen.

(Also, am I the only one who things the music flows a bit like "Particle Man" by They Might Be Giants?)
